How do I become a Lead Author?
-
1. OPEN YOUR BOOK
To open a new book on a topic of your choice, sign-up as a Lead Author, and submit your book proposal. Create a Title, Subtitle, Description, and a Table of Content, clearly conveying what your book is about and what new and unique message it will have for the reader. We may ask you some questions to assess your seriousness and commitment in completing this book. If approved, you book will Open on the platform for co-creation and publishing.
-
2. INVITE PEERS
Ask your peers (friends, colleagues, team-mates) to join you in co-creating the book. This way, you expedite the book-writing process, and bring in knowledge diversity.
-
3. CURATE
As the Lead Author, it will be your responsibility to respond to incoming contributions in a timely manner. Review every incoming contribution to accept/edit/reject them for their suitability in terms of overall scope and your vision of the book. When you approve a contribution, it becomes part of the manuscript.
-
4. CROWDFUND
While the book is still being written, start spreading the word about it within your networks. Generate interest around your book, and gather support in the form of pre-orders. As a co-author, you will be given a crowdfunding target (# of copies) that you will be expected to achieve together with your team of co-authors. Encourage and mobilise your team for their enthusiastic participation.
-
5. PEER REVIEW
When a first draft of the book is completed, it will enter a peer-review process consisting of:
cross-reviews, where each co-author reviews the submission from another co-author
if needed, external review, where the manuscript is sent to two external reviewers.
-
6. PUBLISH
When the crowdfunding target is achieved, your book will enter publishing. It will be copyedited, typeset, proofread. Illustrations will be added, where needed, and a beautiful cover will be designed for the book. Your name will be included as a co-author, and displayed at various places in the book, including the cover/back page. The book will be published in print (paperback and hardcover) and electronic formats and widely distributed. For all orders beyond the crowdfunding target, 50% profits will be shared with the co-author team, per the proportion of contribution made by each co-author.
How do I co-author an Open Book?
-
1. SUBMIT YOUR CONTRIBUTION
With our specially designed Open Authoring platform, it couldn’t be easier! Simply sign-in as a Contributor and submit your contribution to a chapter/sub-chapter of an Open Book. You can also create a new chapter or sub-chapter. The Lead Author or Commissioning Editor evaluates every contribution for its suitability in terms of overall scope and vision. If approved, it becomes part of the manuscript. And you, a co-author.
