Aluwani is a scientist turned agripreneur. He epitomises the ideal modern farmer: versatile, curious and tech-savvy – but most importantly he is on a quest to bringing affordable vegetables to every household in South Africa.
Setting up hydroponics structures in his research lab, that eventually yielded him bumper crops such as sweet peppers and butter lettuce, was the ultimate drawcard for this self-taught and ambitious farmer. He saw the gap in local fresh produce markets and decided to use his innovative skills to change the agricultural landscape and productivity in Africa.
At the heart of Aluwani’s farming operations is the technology-oriented portable grower – VegiGrowerTM - that combines organic farming with convenience. His business advice: “start small and grow bigger.” While managing his farming operations, he still finds time to lecture university students and mentor new aspiring farmers on a consultancy basis.
