Many books are written on parenting – from potty training, to schooling, to parenting teenagers – generally by so-called “Parenting Gurus” (professionals and self-proclaimed experts), and provide you with an authoritative direction to follow. This book is being written by real-life parents like you and me, sharing their personal experiences, the challenges they faced, as a mother or a father (the challenges are very different, I’m sure you’ll agree), and how they found a solution (or may still be struggling to find one). It follows is a new form of book-writing called “Open Authoring”. LetsAuthor, through its unique digital platform, enables the real stake-holders – the parents – to come forward and wholeheartedly share their experiences, and the wisdom thus developed. Please join us and share your unique experiences as a parent.
Many books are written on parenting – from potty training, to schooling, to parenting teenagers. These books touch upon the fundamental aspects of parenting – understanding the child, giving them a loving atmosphere, giving them the best education, identifying and nurturing their inherent talents, helping them grow up to be good and responsible citizens. Usually written by so-called “Parenting Gurus”, these books provide an authoritative direction to follow, promising the effectiveness of the methods. Their authority lies in the authors’ own profession (a pediatrician, a psychiatrist, a psychotherapist, a self-proclaimed expert mom/dad), and their “vast” experiences from interacting with other parents.
This book does not talk about the best ways for parenting. This book is not written by a Parenting Expert who’s studied and guided others on the techniques of good parenting. This book is written by real-life parents like you and me, sharing their personal experiences, the challenges they faced, as a mother or a father (the challenges are very different, I’m sure you’ll agree), and how they found a solution (or may still be struggling to find one). There is no one perfect way toward parenting and we would all agree that each kid is uniquely different, shaped by their inherent genetics, and the environment they’re growing up in. Because of the diversity of ideas presented in this book, coming from a diverse set of parent-turned-authors, you may find some of the narrations absolutely non-relatable, but then some, I’m sure, will be highly relatable to your situation, and will benefit you in profound ways.
The book has been structured to cover the entire “parent journey”, right from the first day the child is born, till they reach the teenage, and beyond. It aims to cover parenting experiences and tips from the early days, to the early months, toddler years, and so on. This book, I believe, will be a book for life. It will be filled with first-hand experiences and anecdotes you will find useful to refer to, at various stages of your child’s growth and development. The book has been structured along three parts: parenting new-borns, the growing-ups, and the grown-ups. Each part has further been divided into topics reflecting the different stages of growing up, from the first days, to the first months, and so on.
The child will grow up in a few years, and will no longer remain a child, but the parent remains a parent all life. However, it is imperative that we remain mindful that the child is growing, their needs are changing, and eventually, when they reach adulthood, their need is for us to stop parenting them. That is the time when the parents need to mindfully detach themselves from the life of their children, and let them face life, themselves.
